Mfangano Island is a serene, rural island located in Lake Victoria, Kenya. Known for its rich culture, stunning natural beauty, and close-knit communities, the island is home to the Suba people, who maintain deep-rooted traditions. Life on Mfangano is peaceful but marked by limited access to healthcare, education, and resources—making it a place where connection, compassion, and support can make a meaningful difference.

We are honored to share that Zuri Life is partnering with Arise and Shine Kenya, a grassroots nonprofit led by Erick Dudi and Chairwoman Doreen, working in the Lake Victoria region to empower women and children facing deep social and economic challenges.
Arise and Shine began by supporting mothers in their own communities and has grown into a powerful force for change, raising over 10 million Kenyan shillings to fight gender-based inequalities, HIV, and poverty in Lou-speaking counties. In regions where “sex-for-fish” exploitation is common and women often carry the burden of both caregiving and economic instability, Arise and Shine provides access to maternal health care, business and agricultural training, and safe pathways to long-term empowerment.
Our partnership will begin with a shared vision: creating sustainable solutions for period poverty, economic opportunity, and community support for women on Mfangano Island and surrounding areas. Together, we are working to launch:
A life skills and business management training course
An agricultural empowerment program providing essential farming tools and mentorship
A community resource center to serve as a safe, well-equipped hub for health, education, and opportunity
This collaboration is grounded in listening first and building programs that are truly responsive to local needs.
We are so excited for what’s ahead.
