For many families on Mfangano Island, staying in school is not just about motivation. It is about money. It can be incredibly challenging for parents to afford school fees, especially in single mother homes or in families facing unfortunate circumstances. When fees become too heavy, children are often forced to miss school or stop altogether, even when they are hardworking and eager to learn.
That is why we created Zuri Life’s Scholarship Program. We want every child to have an equal opportunity to continue their education, no matter their household situation.
This year, we awarded two scholarships to Eunice and Zera Saggy, both from a single parent household, so that they may continue their education. We also awarded a scholarship to Wickliffe to support him in staying in school and moving forward with his goals.
Going forward, we will award one scholarship each year to help more children stay in school and to keep building a future where opportunity is not determined by circumstance.
